Rumor: Skyrim has two more DLCs coming

Skyrim DLC Dawnguard

A post from a Redditor who claims to know one of the developers for the RPG caught our eye.

In the post, “MD_Stormcloak” says he went to college with one of the programmers and they still stay in contact frequently. Recent discussions between the two revealed that the issues with the Playstation 3 DLC is weighing heavily on the morale at the studios.

“They aren’t being bribed by Microsoft, and they are just simply thumbing their noses at PS3 users,” Stormcloak wrote. “[T]hey genuinely want to get the product out there and have simply been met with problem after problem. It isn’t just one thing, it’s a large number of issues that have acted as roadblocks to them releasing content on the PS3.”

Once the issues with the Dawnguard and Hearthfire DLC on the PS3 are resolved, Bethesda plans two more expansions plus some free content enhancements similar to mounted combat. According to Stormcloack, “[T]he next DLC will explore the beginnings of the Nords and Skyrim’s culture, as well as the Snow Elves and yes, even the Dwarves. The last DLC will involve the choosing of a new King of Skyrim and the war against the elves.”

One of these DLC will reportedly include spears. Dragonborn introduced the ability to reset skills which will allow Bethesda to add the weapon and a new skill tree to Skyrim without short-changing high level players.

Interestingly, Stormcloak claims that some of the content added to Dragonborn was for the sake of PC modders. This includes all of the Morrowind themed architecture, items and creatures such as the Silt Strider. This also includes the Werebear as many Skyrim players have noted their frustration in not being able to turn into the creature similar to the Werewolf.

Update: Bethesda programmer Ricardo Gonzalez threw a bucket of cold water on the Reddit rumor by writing, “Bethesda dev here. This is a mixture of half-truths gleaned from interviews and outright falsehoods. Best to just move on.”
