During CES we got a chance to take a look at the upcoming upgrades to MSI’s existing line of gaming laptops, but the company also gave us an early sneak peek at a yet-to-be-announced notebook that it plans to launch later this year. Unfortunately, MSI wasn’t able to divulge all of the details regarding the new laptop, but we do know that it will include a 15.6-inch display, and that the metallic prototype model we were able to handle was both thin and lightweight.
Branding on the laptop shows that the company looks set to utilise Dynaudio to handle sound and Steelseries for its keyboard hardware and software—both of which will also be featured on the rest of the company’s upcoming laptop refreshes.
MSI hasn’t yet said if the new notebook will be an extension of one of its existing products or if it will be the start of a new line for the company, but, judging by its size, it looks like MSI may pit its new machine against smaller gaming laptops like the Razer Blade.
Other hardware specifics like CPU and GPU options were not revealed, nor was the resolution of the new laptop’s display. Pricing also has yet to be announced. MSI’s 17-inch “portable” GS70 laptop, for comparison, starts at $1,799.99 (ZAR18,000).
